Welcome!
My name is Shelly Pickren and I am a library media specialist at a primary school. I am also a recent graduate of Dominican University's School of Library and Information Science. Thank you for visiting my site. On this and the following pages, I have collected examples of projects that I learned how to do while attending Dominican and during my twelve years working as a library aide in an elementary school before my current position. There are presentations, flyers, handouts and links to various online projects. I hope you will look through the pages and maybe take away thoughts on how you might approach a similar project.
AnswerGarden.com is a great app that allows you to conduct a quick poll or gather information from students.
Please use the QR-Code reader on your Smartphone to immediately access my LinkedIn profile using the image to the right. I easily created this code using the QR-Code generator at qrcode.kaywa.com.
I think it would be great to use QR codes for students to create direct links to their own booklists or reviews. Or connecting to their Glogster posters online! This is a unique way to highlight student work! |

To the left is a custom speaking avitar I made using the Voki.com website. By typing any text, you give your avitar the ability to speak. There is no account to sign up for, and it literally took me 6 minutes from start to finish. (Maybe I should have worked harder on that hair style!) I think it would be a great way to have kids present a current event report, contribute to a class blog, or even an attention-getting way for teachers to give the morning announcements. Wouldn't it look great on the smartboard? What other uses can you come up with?

The following photostory was created using iMovie, to be used as an introduction to the library for 1st and 2nd graders. I uploaded the video to Youtube and then used the embed code to place it here.
